Critical Software’s growth has been continuous and sustained over the years. The international market plays an increasingly important role in our strategy.

Financial Graph

Although the group experienced a significant increase in turnover pertaining to the domestic market, Critical Software remains steadfast in its focus on the international market and on the volume of its exports as a strategic vector for the company's growth.

A proof of that commitment is the investment in the 2009 launching of two subsidiaries, Brazil and Moçambique. These two geographical markets have enormous growth potential and are strategic for Critical Software in the upcoming years.

2010 witnessed a clear economic recovery for the Critical Software Group after the acute phase of the financial crisis and economical downturn of 2009. Given the uncertainty of these economic times, Critical Software will have to keep on facing some challenges in its strategy to foster the investment on dual-use technology, while being a provider of high value-added IT consulting services and best-of-breed engineering solutions.

Of paramount importance for Critical Software’s growth strategy is the ability to exploit the major achievement of reaching the CMMI Level 5 quality certification. By applying CMMI at Level 5 Critical Software strongly augmented its productivity, greatly optimizing the processes associated with software engineering and so attaining a much greater ability to plan, predict and mitigate risks related to software development. With the CMMI Level 5 model, and by applying Six-Sigma techniques, Critical Software works towards delivering software that is 99.9997% bug-free, with a shortened development lifecycle.

After the challenges faced due to the global financial crisis of 2009, 2010 was a successful year for Critical Software. Notwithstanding the still uncertain economical climate, by balancing our medium/long-term strategy and vision, with the need to meet the challenges of the short-term, we are maintain the focus on our ambitious path ahead, showing how well prepared we are to overcome unfavourable contexts.

We have achieved a solid operation with a good level of wealth generation with a continued investment in the most demanding regions of our domestic market – Europe – with results worth mentioning in the UK, recognized in the Business Expansion Award granted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI); and, strategically, looking at the southern hemisphere’s economic growth, we continued the scale up of our operations there, consolidating our presence in Mozambique and Angola and investing in building a solid base in Brazil.

The most relevant asset for Critical Software’s growth is talent! To foster it, we set up ITGrow, a partnership with Banco BPI, with the mission to attract and develop talented young and ambitious engineers.

Worth mentioning is also our continued investment in quality. After joining in 2009 the very demanding and restrict group of just around 20 companies in Europe with CMMI Staged Level 5 certification, we are consolidating this achievement by constantly improving our ability to effectively measure what we do, anticipate, estimate, and quantify the quality of the solutions provided to our partners and clients.

Last, but not least, we are following with pride and satisfaction, the potential shown and successes achieved by the Critical group product companies in nowadays demanding context.

Looking at we have accomplished in 2010, we are confident in a future where Critical Software is among the winners on the other side of this crisis. Our employees around the world are motivated and fully engaged in facing every challenge. The effective execution of all our performance recovery measures will make it possible for Critical Software not only to withstand the current crisis, but to continue building a strong and global brand, admired by the most demanding.

Yours truly,

Gonçalo Quadros
